The MDI YMCA Sharks is a competetive swim team that competes in both the Maine State YMCA League and USA Swimming. The team has approximately 100 swimmers that range from 5-18 years of age. Sharks members have a large array of abilities, from the recreational swimmer all the way up to the National level swimmer. Swimmers practice between 3-10 times per week at the MDI YMCA pool. The goal of the program is not to develop Olympic champions in the sport of swimming, but champions in whatever endeavor they may choose.

Anyone is welcome to try the Sharks for a week. All one must be able to do is swim the length of the pool. Remember, the Y does offer scholarships for all their programs including the swim team. The Y also provides transportation from island elementary schools.
