Season End We will still have two more weeks of swim practice. The last swim practice is scheduled for April 1. Spring Swim Team will begin on May 9 and Summer Swim Team will begin on June 20. More information will be available at the Swim Team Banquet.
Private Lessons The Shark Coaches will be available for private lessons for present and future swim team members. Each lesson will be used to improve/sharpen skills to prepare for the summer and winter swim seasons. Beginning after April vacation on Monday and Wednesday afternoons we will time at 3:30 or 3:45pm for private lessons. The lessons are available for one, two, or three swimmers for $30/30 minutes. Prior arrangements must be made with the Head Swim Coach and other times may be scheduled as well.
Swim Camps The Lenny DeMuro Swim Camp is scheduled for July 11 - 15 and the Water Sports Camp will be from August 1 - 5. The Lenny DeMuro camp will concentrate on one stroke each day, in the mornings we will work on stroke drills and the afternoons will spent on improving starts, turns, and endurance. We will conclude on Friday working on the IM with the traditional mini-meet in the afternoon. The Water Sports Camp will focus on a stroke each morning and in the afternoons the swimmers will spend time diving, log rolling, playing water games, and having fun at the pool. We do plan to take a day trip to Sand Beach sometime during the week. For each camp the mid-day hours will be spent outside playing games, eating lunch, and having a good time.

JO’s (Winter Champs) The Sharks had a great meet at the JO’s held at Bowdoin College from March 10 - 13. The Sharks placed 4th overall behind the local teams of LRSC (Bath Y), CMA (Cape Elizabeth/Scarborough), and the Seals (Westbrook). It was an impressive showing by all who swam at the meet. The Sharks were dominant in both the 10 & under and 11 - 12 age groups. Again we did not have a lot of numbers in the older age groups but our swimmers performed great against the toughest competition that I have ever seen at the JO meet. The new format led to some exciting racing and much shorter sessions for the swimmers. Next year’s meet will be a similar format but will probably be at U Maine.
New England Swimmers Ten swimmers will be heading to Harvard University this weekend to swim at the Y New England Championships. Madison Luck will swim on Friday evening; Avalon & Billy Kerley, Aubrie Boyce, Tom Gallup, Pierce DiMauro, & Zach Genrich will swim on Saturday morning; Quinlan Hinerfeld & Amos Price will swim on Saturday afternoon; and Liam Sullivan will swim on Sunday morning. You may follow the results online at melroseymca.org.
Zone All-Star Qualifiers Six Shark Swimmers will be headed to the Eastern Zone All-Star Meet to represent the Maine All-Star Team. The meet will be held March 31 - April 2. Madison Luck, Avalon Kerley, Tom Gallup, Joy Zhang, Oliver Johnston, and Liam Sullivan will be making the long trip to compete in the fastest age group meet in the world. You may follow those results online at maineswimming.org.
YMCA Nationals Leila Johnston qualified for the YMCA Nationals at the Maine Winter Champs in the 50 Free and the 100 Fly. She will be swimming at the Swimming Hall of Fame pool in Fort Lauderdale FL, the week of April 5 - 8. You should be able to follow her on the ymcaswimminganddiving.org website.
Concessions Thanks to all that helped out at the Sharks Concession Stand during the Harbor House Shootout. Even though times were slow at some points during the tournament that Sharks still raised over $700. This money will go right into the Sharks account and help to pay for the Banquet on April 13. The next fundraiser for the Sharks will be the Cup Cake sale on July 4, which was a hit last year and should be even better this year.
Volunteer We could use some help at the Awards Banquet on April 13th. We will need some help in the kitchen w/Tony and also could use some help getting all of the awards ready for the swimmers at 6:00pm. We could use some help at the end w/cleaning as well, we are always out of the building by 8:00pm every year.
Thank You I just want to Thank everyone that helped out with the Sharks during the course of this season. We have had a lot of great help from all of the parents this year. It has made this season a tremendous success not just in the pool but creating the Sharks Team feeling again. I would also like to thank the swimmers; this has been an awesome year in the pool because of all the swimmers have worked together as a group to make this one of the best teams in the State.
Thanks, JIM |
